Voter Registration Process in India (18+)

India, the minimum age required to vote in any election is 18 years. Once a citizen completes 18 years of age, they become eligible to vote. However, voting is not automatic. Every eligible citizen must complete the voter registration process in advance to exercise their voting rights.

Why Voter Registration Is Mandatory

To vote in any election, it is mandatory that your name is included in the voter list of your polling station.
Having a Voter ID card alone is not enough. If your name is missing from the voter list, deleted, or cancelled for any reason, you will not be allowed to vote, even if you possess a voter card.

The most important requirement for voting is:

  • Your name must be present in the voter list
